There were reports of vehicle break-ins on Gladstone and Kings Hwy this weekend.  Unlocked cars were targeted, as well as a vehicle in an unlocked garage.  Additionally, a Toyota was stolen from the driveway of a residence on Taylorsville Rd, where the keys were left in the ignition, with a purse on the front seat.

Please do not leave your valuables in the car.  Never leave your keys in the car!!  Lock your garages, as well as your cars.  Call the police cell phone (432-8900) as soon as you see or hear anything suspicious.  If your dog starts barking for no apparent reason, pay attention to it!

Be Safe,

Chief Renzi

I would like to invite everyone to a “meet the police” meeting next Wednesday,  November 19,2008 @ 6:30pm at The United Church of Christ, 2300 Taylorsville Rd. The meeting will be held in the auditorium, on the Doup side of the property. This is an opportunity for everyone to meet the Strathmoor police officers and to voice any concerns or problems you may have regarding Public Safety.  We hope to have regular meetings of this type in the future, so that we may address any police issues you may have and make any necessary procedural changes that will help us improve the effectiveness our department and improve our working relationship with the community.Feel free to bring your family members, and please tell your neighbors who may not be on the email list to come too.  Anyone attending who is not on the list will have an opportunity to sign up at the meeting.

 See you there!

 Chief Renzi

Hey Everyone,

I just wanted to advise everyone that an arrest has been made in connection with several burglaries in the area, including a recent burglary on Lowell Ave in Strathmoor Village.  He is suspected of committing 10 -12 more burglaries in the area.  The investigation is continuing, and additional charges will probably be forthcoming.

I don’t think he would have been picked up so soon if not for some great investigative work by Strathmoor Officer Mike Petra.  Mike joined our Department in August, and we are very lucky to have him on board.  Thanks a bunch, Mike, for an outstanding job!

 Regards, Chief Renzi, 10/13/08

9/1/08 ALERT:  Police have received recent reports in the Strathmoor Manor area of late-night auto burglaries.  Someone has entered a couple of vehicles and rummaged through the contents.  Please be sure to remove all valuables from plain view while they are in your vehicle and be sure to lock it up when you are not driving it.   Report all late-night incidents of juveniles walking the streets.  Call the police cell phone @ 432-8900.

Metro police recently, after a foot chase, made an arrest of a man on burglary charges who matches the physical description of the person recently burglarizing homes in Strathmoor Village.  The Strathmoor Village Police will continue to escalate daytime patrols during the peak burglary period.  Call the duty officer on the cell phone @ 432-8900  if you see any suspicious persons in the neighborhood so they can be checked out

Thank you, Chief Renzi

At the May 5, 2008 City meeting we regretably accepted the resignation of Chief Jeff Carter who has served our community in outstanding fashion.  Jeff accepted a new position with the Kentucky Department of Advocacy.  He will be missed by many.  The Commission appointed Jeff's replacement --Joe Renzi, former long-time Chief of Police at Graymoor/Devondale who recently retired (and he thought he was going to rest).  We are very fortunate and very honored to have a man of Joe's caliber now serving as your new Police Chief.

     Chief of Police Joe Renzi

I graduated from Iroquois High School in 1969 and went into the Marines a week later for 3 years, honorably discharged as a Sergeant.  I then spent several years studying and teaching martial arts (primarily Chinese Kenpo) and have attained the rank of 6th degree black belt. In July of last year I was honored to be inducted into the Kenpo Hall of Fame.

In 1977, I became re-acquainted with my high school sweetheart, Nancy. We married in 1980 and are raising 3 children, Nora, Madeline, and Nick. I also have a 5 year old grandson. I graduated from U of L in 1981, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Police Administration. I returned to U of L several years later and worked on my Masters Degree in Elementary Education, student teaching and taking classes during the day and policing at night.

In 1978 I started my career in police week for the City of Plantation. I went to work for the City of Devondale in 1979, becoming their Chief in 1980. Several years later Devondale merged with the City of Graymoor and became the City of Graymoor-Devondale. I was the Chief for 28 years before retiring in April of this year and joining the Strathmoor Village Police Dept.

NOTE from our new Police Chief Joe Renzi

In an effort to improve communication between the Police Department and our residents, we have added a cellular phone for the duty officer to carrry.  This number (432-8900) will enable residents to have easy access to an officer without having to talk to an answering machine eliminating potential confusion often involving important information.  It will also eliminate the necessity for having to make additional calls to residents who may need an officer in a timely manner.saving both time and confusion which has often been the case with the pager.

In the event that a call is received via the cellular phone and it is not picked up by an officer within 20 seconds, the call will automatically be forwarded to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Dispatcher, who will be able to provide prompt police service for the complaint.  Until this cancellation in about 6 months, the pager will instruct residents to contact the police cell phone.
